Giovanni Malesci was born on 13 September 1884 in Vespignano. In 1927 he moved to Milan, where a year earlier his works (exhibited in the L'Esame Gallery together with those of Ruggero Focardi) had achieved good success. He was stimulated by the idea of ​​dealing with a wider and less provincial reality than the Florentine one: he was able to win the challenge, establishing himself in Lombardy too. He made occasional trips to Genoa and Rome (for the Quadrennials), but Milan had now become "his" city. In 1929 a solo show at the Micheli Gallery had the honor of being presented by Carlo Carrà, who had already dedicated words of praise to Malesci. Also in the Lombard capital, the painter would have his consecration in 1949, with an important exhibition at the Bolzani Gallery and with the publication of the first monograph dedicated to him, edited by Giorgio Nicodemi.
