Jean Hippolyte Marchand (1882-1941), born in Paris in 1882, was a French painter, engraver and illustrator, linked to the Cubist school and the Bloomsbury group.
He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Léon Bonnat's studio from 1902 to 1906 and began to exhibit simultaneously in Paris in 1910 (Salon des Indépendants, Section d'Or) and in London. His art then borders on post-impressionism. Read the full biography

Jean Hippolyte Marchand (1882-1941), born in Paris in 1882, was a French painter, engraver and illustrator, linked to the Cubist school and the Bloomsbury group.
He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Léon Bonnat's studio from 1902 to 1906 and began to exhibit simultaneously in Paris in 1910 (Salon des Indépendants, Section d'Or) and in London. His art then borders on post-impressionism. The English collector Samuel Courtauld (1876-1947) acquired some of his paintings and the young painter then became close to members of the Bloomsbury Group.
After the First World War, he produced many prints (woodcut, lithographs) for high-quality works. He died in Paris in 1941.
