Salvatore Marchesi was born in Parma on 2 February 1852 and enrolled at the Parma Academy in the years 1863-64 under the guidance of Giulio Carmignani, an expert in French "en plein air" painting. In 1871, he received his diploma in teaching design. In 1873, he participated in the exhibition at the Brera Academy, awarded for his depiction of the choir of the Church of San Giovanni in Parma by Prince Umberto. In 1884, he presented his canvas entitled "First Notes" at the National Exhibition of Turin which was then acquired by the Revoltella Civic Museum of Trieste. From 1881 to 1885, he worked as a professor at the Brescia School of Art, and in 1885 he assumed the position of director. In 1886, he won the competition for the role of professor of perspective at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts in Palermo. Salvatore Marchesi died in Parma on 27 March 1926.
