Renzo Margonari Biography
Renzo Margonari (1937 - ) was born in Mantua in 1937. Well-known painter, engraver, historian and art critic, known above all as a scholar of Surrealism and the Fantastic, of ancient and modern Mantuan art, he also worked as a sculptor, ceramist and in various other expressive sectors. An active cultural organizer, he has created original initiatives, exhibitions, studies, conferences, documentaries and more, which have often stimulated and anticipated, proposing unusual points of view and unusual topics. Director and editor of important cultural magazines and periodicals of various importance. He has participated in artistic life since 1957, exhibiting in various museums, invited to qualified international group exhibitions, receiving important recognition. He is a regular member of the international "Phases" movement in Paris. For over a decade he was director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Verona, and professor of Art History; He now holds the chair of Painting there. His most recent participation as the only invited Western artist was at the "Second International Ink Painting Biennial of Shenzhen", China. The last solo exhibition was at the Konstnarsgarden Museum in Jonkoping, Sweden.
