Juan Jiménez Martín was born on May 27, 1855 and was a famous Spanish painter who specialized in historical scenes. He studied at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, under the guidance of important artists such as Federico de Madrazo, Carlos Luis de Ribera and Carlos de Haes. In 1881, he was selected by the Diputación Provincial de Ávila and was granted a stipend that allowed him to study abroad. He moved to Rome, where he received a scholarship to the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and enrolled from 1882 to 1886. Inspired by the works of Mariano Fortuny, Martín began creating orientalist paintings and visited various cities including Florence, Naples and Venice, where he mainly created landscapes. Juan Jiménez Martín died in Madrid in 1901.
