Born in Mars-el-Hadjadi in Algeria in 1941, he was a professor at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Algiers until 1962. Since 1963 he has lived in exile in France, where, since 1995 he has taught at the Ecole supérieure d'art in Aix-en-Provence. As an animator of the "Aouchem" painting group he carried out experimental activities and activities related to the valorization of traditional Algerian art. Since 1974 he has exhibited works and participated in cultural events with his productions in various cities, from Florence to Cuba, from Paris to Tunis, from Milan to Strasbourg. In 1985 the filmmaker Jean-Pierre Liedo dedicated two short films to his work.
