Italian painter (Livorno 1941). He began painting by copying Flemish paintings and works by Tiepolo and then became so impressed by American abstract expressionism that he moved, in 1977, to New York and then to San Francisco. Since the exhibitions in Milan (1973) and Rome (1975) Martini demonstrated his passion for painting, the canvas, colors and gesture, presenting emotionally charged compositions of chromatic bundles and arabesques. Having continued his research towards a spatial continuity between the interior of the painting and the external context, he created suggestive installations (Milan Stock Exchange, 1983): the paintings represent only the emerging and focused parts of a much larger contextual area, connected to it with laces, cords, peduncles that start from the edges of the canvases. Among Martini's works, the Quantità series is notable, presented in Milan in 1990.
