Sergio Martino Biography

Sergio Martino was born in Rome in 1938 and began his career in the world of cinema in the 1960s as a screenwriter and assistant director. In 1969 he made his debut as a director with the sexy documentary "A Thousand Sins... No Virtues". In 1970, he directed his first thriller, "The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh", starring actress Edwige Fenech. From this film Martino then directed four other thrillers, two of which again with Fenech: "All the Colors of Darkness" and "Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key". In addition to thrillers, Martino has directed numerous other genres, including "Milan trembles: the police want justice", "Giovannona Longtail dishonored with honor", "The mountain of the cannibal god" and "The island of fishmen". In the 1980s he directed several genre films, including "Murder at the Etruscan Cemetery" and "2019 - After the Fall of New York", which was successful in the United States and entered the ranking of the ten most viewed films. In the 1990s he directed sporadically, directing the erotic thrillers "Spiando Marina" and "Scratching Desire", before moving mainly to fiction. In 2008 he directed "The coach in the ball 2". In 2017 he published his autobiography, entitled "A thousand sins... no virtues?", while in 2019 a documentary was made about his career directed by Daniele Ceccarini and Francesco Tassara.
