Masaki Biography
Masaki Nakayama was born in 1945 in Kofu, Japan, where he still lives and works. He attended Komagome School in Tokyo, where he graduated. An internationally renowned artist, Nakayama has exhibited his works in several countries, including Japan, France, Italy, Poland and the Czech Republic. He is remembered for having contributed to the birth of unprecedented forms of photographic expression, exploring new ways of representing reality and create innovative scenarios. Nakayama is a well-known Japanese sculptor and photographer whose work presents a skillful combination of philosophical techniques and creative expression. His works range between photography and sculpture, using different types of materials such as wood, metal, ropes and fabrics. He composes images in which his body becomes the protagonist and interacts with the surrounding elements. In particular, in the Body Scale series, the artist has elevated the photographic medium to new conceptual levels, combining the aesthetics of the Rising Sun and the influence of minimalism and performance art. Each work is the result of a careful planning process and meticulous techniques, the result of an image construction process that leads to a surprising formal solution. Nakayama conceives each work starting from an original idea, paying particular attention to the subsequent integration of external and real elements, to obtain complete and evocative images. His works are held in the permanent collections of the Yamanashi Art Museum, the Yokohama Civic Art Gallery, and the Urawa Art Museum.
