Marcello Mascherini, a leading figure among Italian sculptors of the early twentieth century, was born in Udine on 14 September 1906. While still a child he moved with his mother to Trieste, where he lived for the rest of his life. From 1921 to 1924 Marcello Mascherini attended the section of " Ornamental Sculptors" of the School for Art Leaders of the Alessandro Volta Institute and has, as modeling master, Alfonso Canciani. At the end of his studies, he enters as an apprentice assistant in the studio of Franco Asco, then a novice artist. Marcello Mascherini has only twenty years old when the city of Trieste entrusted him with the restoration of the "Fountain of the Four Continents in Piazza Unità. In 1928 the Politeama Rossetti Theater was inaugurated, for which Marcello Mascherini executed decorative stuccos of masks and bas-reliefs, while the young artist works hard on his sculptures, among which "Icarus" will be accepted to be exhibited by the V Triennale of Milan.
