Gianluigi Mattia (Venaria Reale, 1940) is an Italian painter and sculptor. Gianluigi Mattia was born in Venaria Reale and after attending the artistic high school in Turin, he enrolled at the Albertina Academy, where he was a student of Felice Casorati, graduating in scenography. He obtained his first personal exhibition in 1961 at the Circolo degli Artisti in Turin. In 1963 he moved to Rome to work as an assistant with the set designer Ezio Frigerio, continuing his activity as a painter in parallel. In 1965 he was invited to the Paris Biennial. In 1967 he began his teaching career, first teaching decoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and finally at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. The personal exhibition held at the Galleria Giulia in Rome in 1974 consecrated him as one of the significant Italian artists of the 20th century, from that moment on his exhibitions multiplied in Italy and Europe. In the same year he will be present at the "Italienische Realisten 1945-1974" Berlin and at the XXVIII Milan Biennial.
