Andrea Mauro Biography

Andrea Mauro was born in Faenza in 1954. He subsequently reversed his name and surname and signed his works. In 1975 he opened a studio where he dedicated himself to the first ink works characterized by notable meticulousness, a pictorial research balanced between painting and drawing, and "graffiti" (works on a material support). In 1980 he was invited by Franco Solmi to participate in his first important exhibition "Il Lavoro Felice" and in 1982 he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in Paris. His "idols" in terracotta and gold were created in 1981 and at the 41st International Ceramic Art Competition in Faenza in 1983 he covered his work as a sign of dissent because the jury had admitted only part of the composition sent. In 1988 Michelangelo was among the first to use the computer, for works ranging from large paintings to skyscrapers. In 1992 he created a large computer-painted ceramic tile, anticipating the future of computer-assisted ceramic production. For the Imola company he designed works for a skyscraper in Manhattan, a large cup for the San Marino Formula One Grand Prix, and in 1999 he won first prize in the "The plaque of the spirit of the millennium" competition promoted by the National Association Italian American Foundation. From 2000 to 2010 the artist dedicated himself to pictorial works created with computer technology, marble, bronze and handmade paper. In 2001 he placed one of his sculptures in Piazza Mirri in Imola.
