Galliano Mazzon Biography

(Camisano Vicentino, 15 July 1896 – Milan, 3 July 1978). Galliano was born in 1896 into a large family made up of 8 brothers including him. The following year he left for Brazil with his emigrant family. After graduating as a teacher, he will teach in a Brazilian evening school for a year. In 1916 he returned to Italy to volunteer, the following year unfortunately he lost his right hand on Monte Santo. The phase of abstractionism and surrealism began in 1930 when he attended the Galleria del Milione, a center for abstractionist painters. Two years later, in 1932 he painted the triptych Sensitive Space and experimented with surrealist painting. Between 1934 and 1938 he lived alone in Dolaso ​​in the Brenta Dolomites and in 1934 he published an anonymous book of poems. 1953 was the year of figurative, lyrical and magical idealization which in the fifties and sixties was influenced by parainformal influences . While in 1962 he found himself in a depressive state due to fears of a third world war and his painting was affected, he painted a series of desolate and expressionist visions. When he overcame the crisis in 1965 he found himself in the phase of structuralist abstractionism, the work the Salotto Como is presented at the Gallery. In October 1967 Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti presented him among the first abstractionists in Florence in the historic exhibition held at Palazzo Strozzi "Modern Art in Italy 1915-1935". In October 1969 the municipality of Milan dedicated a large anthological exhibition to him at the Civica Galleria d 'Contemporary art. While in 1971 the Peccolo Gallery of Livorno organized his anthological exhibition at the Montecatini Art Academy.
