Sebastiano Mazzoni was an Italian painter born in Florence in 1611 and died in Venice on 22 April 1678. He was considered one of the most prolific artists of seventeenth-century Venetian painting.

Sebastiano Mazzoni was an Italian painter born in Florence in 1611 and died in Venice on 22 April 1678. He was considered one of the most prolific artists of seventeenth-century Venetian painting.
Between 1632 and 1633 he entered the workshop of Baccio del Bianco. In 1638, however, he enrolled at the Accademia del Disegno in Florence, as shown by Barsanti's documents from 1986.
In Venice, Sebastiano was in contact with the Nani family of San Trovaso, who played an important role in the commission of his works.
Poet and painter, as he defined himself in a sonnet, Mazzoni became a friend of Pietro Liberi and designed the palace "with thirteen windows" on the Grand Canal. Among his students were also Niccolò Bambini and perhaps Sebastiano Ricci.
Mazzoni died on 22 April 1678.
All his compositions are dominated by urgent movement and tension. His artistic personality remained forgotten for over two centuries, and only recently has it been re-evaluated and occupied a prominent place in seventeenth-century Venetian painting.
