Paul McCarthy (Salt Lake City, August 4, 1945) is an American artist. McCarthy studied art at the University of Utah in 1969. He continued his studies at the San Francisco Art Institute and earned a BFA in painting. In 1972 he studied film, video and art at the University of Southern California and obtained an MFA. Since 1982 he has taught art history at the University of Los Angeles. He works mainly with videos and sculptures.
