Romeo Mesisca Biography

Romeo Mesisca (1944 - ) was born in Rome in 1944. After obtaining his high school diploma here, he began his activity in the 70s coming into contact with the group "IRagazzi di Piazza del Popolo", where the main exponents were Schifano, Festa, Fioroni and others; very active in that period in Rome. He exhibits for the first time with a solo exhibition at the “Il Pendolo” Gallery in Rome. The meeting with Renato Guttuso strengthens his passion and artistic commitment, receiving influences that will mark his initial journey into painting. He was awarded the "Golden Capitol", an honor awarded by the ARS DICTANDI foundation for painting in the 1974/75 edition, receiving the nomination of master of art. In the 1980s she became part of the "Zuleika" artistic movement, of which Diana Gripenberg, granddaughter of the Scandinavian poet Bertel Gripenberg, was the founder and curator. In 1990 he moved his studio to the Colli D'Oro district north of Rome where he opened a drawing and painting school, still frequented today by numerous students. In 1996 his first monograph was published by Bor-Art of Rome. In 1997 he was appointed member of the Lazio Regional Commission for the awarding of works of art for the beautification of public buildings together with the art historian Prof. Giuseppe Appella and Prof. Claudio Strinati, superintendent of Lazio. In 2005 he was invited to represent Italy in the 5th edition of the Florence International Art Biennial.
