Salvatore Messina (Palermo, 1916 – Venice, 1982) was a renowned Italian sculptor and painter, famous above all for his innovative sculptures in metal (bronze, iron, etc.) and marble, characterized by a strong dynamism.
Among Messina's best-known works is "Immagine" (1962), an iron work located in the garden of the church of San Francesco in Prato. Some of his works were selected for the prized collection of the famous gallery owner Claudia Gian Ferrari (donated to the FAI) and are now on display in the splendid Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan. Salvatore Messina (Palermo, 1916 – Venice, 1982) was a renowned Italian sculptor and painter, famous above all for his innovative sculptures in metal (bronze, iron, etc.) and marble, characterized by a strong dynamism.
Among Messina's best-known works is "Immagine" (1962), an iron work located in the garden of the church of San Francesco in Prato. Some of his works were selected for the prized collection of the famous gallery owner Claudia Gian Ferrari (donated to the FAI) and are now on display in the splendid Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan. Messina participated in many editions of the Rome Quadrennial, the Venice Biennale (with a solo exhibition in 1956), important exhibitions in Milan and Florence and was winner of the Carrara International Contemporary Sculpture Prize in 1957. He was also a guest of prestigious international exhibitions such as “Moderne Italienische Bildhauer” in Hannover, “Escultores italianos” in Lisbon in 1970, and then in Buenos Aires in 1971, in Tokyo in 1972 and Hong Kong in 1974.
