Radley Metzger Biography
Radley Metzger (also known as Radley Henry Metzger, Radley H. Metzger, and by the pseudonyms "Jake Barnes", "Erich Farina", and "Henry Paris") (January 21, 1929 – March 31, 2017) was an American pioneer director and film distributor , best known for popular and adult art films, including Camille 2000 (1969), The Lickerish Quartet (1970), Score (1974), The Image (1975) and The Opening of Misty Beethoven (1976). His films are known for their lavish design, witty scripts and a penchant for unusual camera angles. Metzger's film and sound works have been added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City. Born in New York. He made a name for himself in erotic cinema by importing and distributing European erotic films, including the Danish sex film I, a Woman (1965). Around the same time Metzger decided to direct his own feature films; among his best-known softcore films are Therese and Isabelle (1968), Carmen, Baby (1967) and Camille 2000 (1969), all shot in Europe. Other notable Metzger films of the period include The Lickerish Quartet (1970), Mother (1973), and Score (1974). Once hardcore porn came to dominate the US adult film market after Deep Throat (1972), Metzger directed several highly regarded explicit films using the pseudonym "Henry Paris", including The Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann (1974), Naked Came the Stranger (1975), The Opening of Misty Beethoven (1976) and Barbara Broadcast (1977).
