Eugenio Miccini (Florence, 1925 – Florence, 19 June 2007) was an Italian writer, poet and artist. In 1963 he founded, together with poets, musicians and painters, the Gruppo '70, coining the term visual poetry which would later be adopted by the general public of the operators. Visual poetry is an artistic direction characterized by the pre-eminence of the image over the typographical text, aimed at obtaining compositions in which words and images, signs and figures integrate seamlessly on a semantic level (Dictionary of the Italian language Devoto-Oli , Le Monnier).His works appear in many public collections, including: Venice Biennale, Museo della Pilotta in Parma, Museum of Modern Art in New York, BWA Museum in Dublin, and the civic galleries of Céret, Mantua, Bologna, Valencia, Antwerp, Warsaw, Tojyo and many others. He has participated in the most important international exhibitions, such as: Venice Biennale (four times), Rome Quadrennial (as commissioner), Stedelijik Museum in Amsterdam, Palazzo Forti in Verona, Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Marseille Museums, GAM, Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara. He has published more than seventy books of a creative and non-fiction nature. He died in Florence on 19 June 2007.
