Giorgio Michetti Biography
Giorgio Michetti (Viareggio, 7 December 1912) is an Italian painter. Born in Viareggio on 7 December 1912 to Ulisse and Margherita Giberti. He shared his adolescence with other people from Viareggio destined for success: the writer Mario Tobino and the set designer Luciano Zacconi (son of Ermete Zacconi). His interest in painting convinced his parents to let him attend the Art School and the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1929, at just 17 years old, he set up his first exhibition in the town hall of Castiglioncello. The war in Ethiopia and the Second World War influenced his choices and for a long period he worked in illustration and advertising graphics. He continues, however, to paint and hang out with the other artists of Viareggio: Renato Santini, Danilo Del Prete, Mario Marcucci, the sculptor Alfredo Morescalchi and the writer Silvio Micheli. Participates in various group exhibitions with excellent results. In 1962 he decided to dedicate himself entirely to painting and moved to Milan. His pictorial language based, in particular, on the rediscovery of the fresco technique, soon led him to execute important public works. The first successful exhibition was in Lugano, Switzerland at the Galleria Dante, in 1966. Over the course of his long life as an artist, personal exhibitions in Italy and other countries followed.
