Dabbrescia Mimmo Biography
Mimmo Dabbrescia (1938 - ) was born in Barletta, but in the 1950s he was already in Milan. He discovered photography by starting to work with Fedele Toscani who collaborated with the "Corriere della Sera". Then hired by the Milanese newspaper, he also worked for "La Domenica del Corriere" and for the then nascent "Amica", creating reportages all over the world. He is the youngest photojournalist of the newspaper but in October 1963 he leaves it to open his own photojournalistic agency collaborating with the major weeklies and the most important record companies. During the Sixties and Seventies he portrayed the stars of entertainment and culture: among many, the Beatles, Fabrizio De André, Mina, Mia Martini, Joe Cocker, Clint Eastwood, Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, but also Eugenio Montale, Dino Buzzati , Riccardo Bacchelli, Federico Fellini, Claudia Cardinale, Marcello Mastroianni, Gilbert Bécaud, Lucio Battisti, Adriano Celentano and even a very young Lucio Dalla. At the beginning of the Seventies he approached the world of art, gravitating to the Brera area and exploring the lesser-known side of the major contemporary artists. He publishes several photographic books on Dalì, Guttuso, De Chirico, Baj, Hartung, Migneco, Dova, Sassu and others. The first volume is Seen like this, awarded by the Province of Milan, followed by Objective on art and Men and art. In recent years Mimmo has continued to create reportages in Thailand, Brazil, China, Cuba, Mexico, Morocco, Tunisia, Spain, Egypt and Kenya.
