Arrigo Minerbi Biography

Arrigo Minerbi, born in Ferrara on February 10, 1881, and died in Padua on May 9, 1960, was an Italian sculptor. After studying at the Dosso Dossi school in Ferrara and perfecting his techniques in Florence and Genoa, Minerbi moved to Milan where he achieved success in 1919 with a solo exhibition at the Pesaro Gallery. Throughout his career, he created several significant works such as The Victory of the Piave and Saint Sebastian. A friend of Gabriele D'Annunzio, he sculpted the marble death mask for him in 1938. After World War II, he mainly worked for Catholic churches and cemeteries in various Italian cities. In 1958, Minerbi converted to Catholicism. He died in 1960 following a surgical procedure. His work will be celebrated with a retrospective at the Estense Castle in Ferrara in 2023.
