Paolo Minoli Biography

Born in Cantù, he frequented, at a very young age, the house of the painter Enrico Sottili and, as a student, the studio of the sculptor Gaetano Negri. He graduated as "Master of Art" in 1961 at the Cantù State Art Institute, where he taught from 1964 to 1978. In 1968 he participated in the national exhibition for young painters of the "San Fedele" prize in Milan. In 1969 he was present at the exhibition “Campourban. Aesthetic interventions in the urban dimension", organized in Como, with a collective intervention on the theme "Signal colour". From 1977 to 1978 he was part of the research group “The systematic questioning” with Nato Frascà and Antonio Scaccabarozzi. Since 1979, at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan he has been teaching the special course of "Chromatology" and collaborates, as a consultant, with companies for the application of chromatic solutions in industrial production. He was artistic director of the art series published by the “RS” editions of Como (1975-1986) and, from 1986 to 1989, of the “On Color” silk-screen printing laboratory of Cantù, in collaboration with various artists, including Mario Radice , Carla Badiali, Aldo Galli, Bruno Munari, Luigi Veronesi, Max Huber, Piero Dorazio and Mario Nigro. In 1980 he published two artist's books for the Corraini publisher of Mantua, in twenty copies, each composed of 13 plates printed in silkscreen personally at the "RS" center in Como: the silkscreen sequences, Cadenza and Relazione, are accompanied by poems by Alberto Veca. In the same year, Interazione 1970-1980 was published by the “Lorenzelli” editions of Bergamo, with texts by Luciano Caramel and Alberto Veca: the volume is composed of 29 silk-screen plates and 4 die-cuts interspersed with a poem by Alberto Veca, “Cinque thesis on difficult reason". In 1982 he was invited to the "XL International Art Biennale" in Venice, "Visual Arts" sector. In 1986 he was present at the "XLII International Art Biennale" in Venice with the work Sequenza A/D of 1977 for the "Colour" sector, as part of the Art and Science exhibition. In 1990, the Paolo Minoli monograph (works from 1966 to 1989) was published in Germany by the “Aras” editions of Saulgau, with texts by Matthias Bärmann and Luciano Caramel. In 1992, he created an 8 meter high steel sculpture entitled In the Wings of the Wind for the “Plaz” in Saulgau; in 1994 the 7 meter high steel sculpture In the Wings of Song was placed in the park of the Museum Bertholdsburg in Schieusingen. In 1997, edited by Carlo Pirovano, the catalog Paolo Minoli, paintings and sculptures (works from 1994 to 1997) was published by Electa editions of Milan. In 1997, the steel sculpture Ballerina, 9 meters high and 5x2 in base, was placed on the north side of the fortress of the Civic Museums of Riva del Garda. In 1998 he was present at the Arte Italiana exhibition. Last forty years. Aniconic painting at the Gallery of Modern Art in Bologna. In 1999 he was invited to the "XIII Quadriennale d'arte" in Rome Proiezioni 2000. The space of visual arts in multimedia civilization and in the same year the sculpture Storie di Scena from 1995 was permanently installed in the "Sculpture Park" of Viadana, a corten steel diptych 4 meters high by 5 meters wide and 2 meters wide.
