Maurizio Mochetti Biography

Maurizio Mochetti was born in 1940 in Rome, where he still lives and works as an artist.
His artistic research focuses on the physics of light, without any symbolic or mystical implications. Initially he studied photons by modifying light radiation, and then used lasers. His imagination as an artist is also dotted with models of cars, weapons, planes and pure geometries. In 1968 he debuted on the Roman art scene with his first solo exhibition at the Galleria La Salita. In 1969 he obtained the Sculpture Prize at the VI Paris Youth Biennial. In 1970, he participated in his first Venice Biennale, followed by others in 1978, 1982, 1986, 1988 and 1997. Starting in the early 1970s, he began to gain international attention by participating in the Sydney Biennale in 1976, at the Nagoya International Biennial in 1991 and at the XXIV Sao Paulo Biennial in 1998. In 1988, he was invited as artist in residence at the Exploratorium in San Francisco (USA).
In 2011 he won the international MAXXI 2per100 competition with the work Lines of light in curvilinear hyperspace, permanently installed at the MAXXI Museum in Rome. In 2013, he won the Italian President of the Republic Award.
Recently, he has exhibited in solo exhibitions at two locations of the Akira Ikeda Gallery (in Berlin and Tokyo in 2015-2016) and in the collective exhibition L'image Volèe at the Fondazione Prada in Milan in 2016.
