Jules Moigniez was a French animal sculptor born on 28 May 1835 in Senlis and died on 29 May 1894 in Saint-Martin-du-Tertre. Moigniez was the son of a metal gilder, who purchased a foundry for his son's sculptures. Moigniez studied sculpture under the tutelage of Paul Comoléra in Paris. Over the course of his 40-year career, Moigniez exhibited 30 works at the Salon between 1855 and 1892, mostly made in bronze. His works depict birds, racehorses, dogs and hunting scenes. These bronzes were cast using the lost wax method, chiseled and patinated impeccably. His works were very popular in England and Scotland but already in December 1869 his works were present in the United States thanks to the Philadelphia jewelry store of JE Caldwell & Co. Jules Moigniez died on May 29, 1894 in Saint-Martin-du -Tertre in France.
