Moïse Kisling was born in Krakow in 1891 and attended the School of Fine Arts in his city at a very young age. His teacher, Józef Pankiewicz, one of the representatives of impressionism, immediately understood Kisling's genius so much so that he pushed him to move to Paris. Thus, the artist reached the French capital in 1910 and, immediately after the First World War, his atelier became a meeting place for artists and writers such as Derain, Modigliani, Max Jacob, Cocteau and Raymond Radiguet. Kisling was known as the painter of joie de vivre, his work characterized by his skill in the use of sumptuous colors and a careful craftsmanship in the treatment of subjects. Kisling's favorite subjects are beautiful southern nudes and landscapes. The artist exhibited in his first solo exhibition at the Druet Gallery in Paris in 1919. He participated in most of the Parisian Salons of the time and exhibited in several exhibitions abroad. Kisling died in 1953 in Sanary-sur-Mer in the Var, France.
