Giorgio Moiso Biography
Born in Cairo Montenotte, in the province of Savona, in 1942 Giorgio Moiso, painter, ceramist and musician, was a pupil of the painter Carlo Leone Gallo. Graduated from the Arturo Martini art school in Savona, he made his debut as a painter in 1969 at the San Giorgio Gallery in Alessandria. Around the end of the Sixties he began to frequent Albisola, coming into contact with Wifred Lam, Asger Jorn, Lucio Fontana, Giuseppe Capogrossi, Piero Manzoni, Sergio Dangelo, Agenore Fabbri, Mario Rossello and others and approaching ceramics. At the same time he continued his passion for jazz by performing as a drummer with some groups. In 1970 he held a solo show at the La Tana Gallery in Savona. At the beginning of the Seventies he opened a ceramic studio in the premises of Pozzo Garitta that had previously belonged to Tullio D'Albisola and in 1972 he exhibited at the Albisola Ceramics Museum in the exhibition "The theme of man". In 1973 Albisola saw him again as a protagonist with two exhibitions, one at the Circolo degli Artisti and the other entitled "The portrait today". In 1975 he was invited to the X Quadrennial in Rome. In 1976 he moved to Milan where he remained for a few years. In 1977 he obtained the San Marino Prize and the Cadorago di Como Prize. In 1980 his works were exhibited at the Greminger Gallery in Genoa. In the second half of the 1980s he collaborated with the Albisola ceramic factory "Fabbrica Casa Museo Giuseppe Mazzotti 1903" owned by Bepi Mazzotti and his son Tullio (second of the name) creating some works in ceramics, one of which is today preserved in the Garden of the Mazzotti Museum. In 1988 he obtained a special mention at the III International Ceramics Competition of Savona. In 1990 he was at Villa Gavotti with the collective exhibition "Albisola, the artists and ceramics" and in Savona at the Priamar Fortress in the exhibition "The work of man". Between '90 and '95 he held solo exhibitions and took part in group exhibitions in Milan, Alba, Albisola, Milan, Bologna, Savona and Genoa. In 1996 he was again at the Manlio Trucco Museum in Albisola as part of the "Ceramica in Galleria" exhibition and he exhibited again in the same museum in 2001. In 2002 he was in Savona with the solo show "Having to do with painting" and took part in the exhibition "Les Grandes Italiens" in Seine Maritime, France. 2003 saw him stage his works in Rouen, Milan, Finale Ligure, Venice and Santa Teresa di Gallura. In 2004 he was at the Postart Galleries in Milan and Balestrini Galleries in Albisola. In 2006 he participated in "Artissima" in Turin and in Kunstart in Bolzano and in 2008 he was at the Pinacoteca Civica in Savona, at the Biale & Cerruti Art Gallery in Siena and in Milan at the Spazio Mazzotta in "Fingerstamps".
