Michelangelo Monti was a well-known Italian sculptor, born in Milan in 1875. He initially studied at the Brera Academy in Milan, subsequently moving to Turin at the Albertina Academy, where he completed his studies in 1896. Monti was the author of several works, including busts, funerary monuments and female nudes. At the beginning, his style was influenced by Lombard pictorialism, but then he developed more plastic and less decorative forms. He was highly appreciated in Turin as a portraitist of the upper-middle class and as the author of small full-length drawing room portraits, a genre little practiced by his contemporaries. In 1908, he participated in the competition for the statues of the Umberto I bridge in Turin. Michelangelo Monti died in Turin in 1946.
