Morele-François (Cholet, 1926)
Francois Morelle is considered one of the pioneers of European minimalism and one of the greatest masters of geometric abstraction. In the 1950s, influenced by the Neoplasticism of Mondrian and Van Doesburg, he dedicated himself to the reduction of shape and color, reaching a simple geometric language. After a trip to Brazil and Spain, Morele's artistic style eventually shifted towards abstraction and geometricism. Between 1960 and 1970, the artist began to create the so-called "frames", parallel lines positioned in a precise order, and used neon lights as a new expressive form. In 1972 he participated in the Venice Biennale and numerous retrospectives throughout Europe. He later created a group of artists called GRAV (Groppe de Ricerche d'Art Visuelle), which aimed to create a kind of experimental art.
