Carlo Moretti Biography

Born in Murano in 1934, he lived in Venice, with his wife Bruna Matteotti, in a house above the roofs and canals adjacent to the Rialto bridge, until his sudden death on 30 May 2008. After his classical studies he enrolled in law . Attracted by the irresistible lure of Murano Crystal, a family heritage, he founded Carlo Moretti with his brother Giovanni in 1958, where he mainly dealt with the design and production of the company's objects. In the 1980s he encouraged the creation of various consortia on the island of Murano. He receives several international awards and recognitions and is invited to hold conferences on his work at cultural and art institutions around the world. He loves art and architecture, classical music and is a voracious reader. He divides his time between long trips around the world, discovering old and new museums and avant-garde lines and trends, and long walks in the mountains. The observation of everyday events as well as the comparison with different and distant cultures often becomes, reworked, the starting point for the creation of unique objects. He has made his personal and professional mark on the search for essentiality and synthesis.
