Domizio Mori was born in 1924 in Mantua. After winning Dino Buzzati acclaim on his debut, he had a series of exhibitions in several countries including Morocco, Brazil, the United States and Japan. Remaining faithful to his personal vision, Mori sought to express the pulsating life of nature through his works, remaining distant from traditional abstract and figurative tendencies.
Mori's canvases have sometimes been associated with the surrealist movement, but his artistic research also recalls the cosmic tension of Graham Sutherland. In particular, his artistic activity has focused on three main themes: cosmic-biological mythologems, skies and butterflies and profane domes. Cosmic-biological mythologems are motifs that allude to the continuous transformation of the world, while the skies and butterflies represent openness to life and ephemeral beauty respectively. Finally, the profane domes represent a cosmological metaphor and an all-encompassing representation.
In this exhibition, several examples of Mori's works represent a fantastic vision of the world, in which human experiences of beauty, attraction and organic and cosmological mystery are sublimated into images of exciting splendor. His art has received international recognition and Mori is considered one of the greatest exponents of Italian art of the 20th century. Mori passed away on January 21, 2020.
