Virginie Morillo was born in Corsica in 1982. After completing her university studies, she attended the Geneva School of Fine Arts (ESBA), obtaining funding as a local representative of the Japanese toy brand Hello Kitty. While still a student, she exhibited her first works, which are located between art and fashion. She exhibited powdered sugar bars to lick, collections of trashy accessories for teenagers, dark scripts about adolescent worlds and declared herself the lead singer of the semi-electronic Japanese punk group. Later, he created fabric designs for fashion brands such as Fendi and Ket Void and mounted collages of lyrics by Kanye West or the South African group Die Antwoord onto multicolored textile banners, becoming circulating linguistic installations. Her preference for the aesthetics and identification strategies of globalized trash and popular culture places her as a member of a generation of large-scale interconnected artists who, like Pipilotti Rist or Sylvie Fleury, explore the emancipatory potential that lies in excessive sensory stimulation.
