Philippe Morrisson (1924-1994) was a geometric abstract painter, collage maker and printmaker (lithographer and etcher). Born in Deauville, he then moved to Paris in 1960, where he died in 1994.
Starting to paint in 1940, Philippe Morisson's production was figurative until 1945. He undertook a brief period of lyrical abstraction to approach geometry in 1947. In this spirit, the compositions he exhibited at the Salon des Surindépendants in the 1950s suggest a constructivist rigor from which he would not deviate and which would bring him closer to the group of artists of the Galerie Denise René (like Yaacov Agam or Jean Tinguely) where he exhibited his works in 1961.
