Francesco Moschini Biography

Francesco Moschini was born in Bogliaco sul Garda (BS) in 1948, he graduated in 1975 from the Faculty of Architecture in Rome. He was a contract professor at the same Faculty from 1983 to 1987 and held courses on the relationship between architecture and visual arts from the 16th century to the present day. He is currently Full Professor of History of Architecture at the Polytechnic of Bari, where he teaches History of Architecture and History of Art, in the Faculty of Engineering and in that of Architecture. From 1993 to 1998 he also taught the History of Architecture course in the newly established Faculty of Ascoli Piceno. He was nominated National Academician of San Luca, in the class of Cultori; he has been a member, since 1974, of the AICA, "International Association of Art Critics", and is part of the Scientific Council of the magazine "Rassegna di Architettura e Urbanistica", as well as a member of the Scientific Committee of the magazine "Paesaggio Urbano" and of the Center of Studies for the History of Architecture. He is the editor of some architecture series including "City and project", "Project and detail", "Architecture and materials", "Exercises" and "Quaderni dell'AAM" for Kappa editions. He is also the author of the catalogs of the "Architecture Monographs" series for the Centro Di in Florence. He collaborates with some authoritative magazines in the sector. For some years he was the scientific director of the European Institute of Design in Rome and appointed director of the same Institute. In 1978 he founded a center for the production and promotion of cultural initiatives, studies and research called AAM Architettura Arte Moderna di Roma, still active, which is now among the Italian cultural institutions most involved in the investigation, not only of design culture, but also of the subtle relationships that exist within the arts system. This structure has been configured since its inception as a propulsive crucible, almost prefiguring through even small exhibitions the major themes on which it would be necessary to work at a public level, making it a sort of progressive center of the modern, an operational reference point, a moment of aggregation for several generations of artists and architects. Since 1993 it has extended its cultural activities by opening a new AAM headquarters also in Milan. He has curated numerous exhibitions with the related catalogues, in Italy and abroad, among which those at the Musèe d'Art Moderne de la Ville in Paris and the one at the Forte Belvedere in Florence as well as the recent exhibition at Poggio a Caiano are worth mentioning. dedicated to his prestigious collection of architectural drawings. In November 2000 his cultural activity was recognized with the INArch Award. He is currently involved in the overall organization of the Library which he recently donated to the Polytechnic of Bari, as well as in the cataloging and arrangement of his large collection of architectural drawings from the 18th century to today. Since 1 January 2011 he has been General Secretary of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, reconfirmed in the position in May 2016.
