Giovanni Maria Mossa was born in 1896.
He leaves Sardinia to attend the Brera Academy. His biographers claim that he was a pupil of Cesare Tallone and Ambrogio Alciati. In 1921 he won the “Hayez Prize” and the “Canonica” three years later, with the works “Study of Nude” and “The Wrestler” both at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. In 1923 he presented the work “Popolana in Sardinian costume” at the Brera National Exhibition. The work is part of the prestigious collection of the Cariplo Foundation. Towards the 1940s he returned to Lombardy, where he painted various portraits and became the master and artistic reference of Aldo Parmigiani. Recently, some works by Giovanni Maria Mossa were presented in the exhibition entitled “L' Animo Gentile” which took place in Lodi from November 2017 to January 2018. The exhibition included works from the 16th to the 20th century with important works by the sixteenth-century Giovanni Agostino da Lodi, Francesco Hayez, Irolli and Mossa.
He died in Pianico (Bergamo) in 1982
