Alfred Muller Biography

Muller Alfred (Livorno, 1869 - Paris, 1939) Alfred Muller studied painting and took lessons from professors at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. He exhibited with the Macchiaioli and the Postmacchiaioli, at the First Exhibition of Fine Arts in Livorno (1886), in the workshop of Gustavo Mors (1890). He was also a pupil of the master Michele Gordigiani and in 1886 he exhibited Silvestro Lega together with Giovanni Fattori at the First Exhibition of Fine Arts in Livorno. In 1889 he exhibited two canvases in Paris at the Universal Exhibition and approached the painting of the impressionists, abandoning academic painting. During his stay in Montmartre Muller met Pissarro, Renoir, Cezanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, who greatly influenced his artistic style. He held his first solo exhibition in 1898 at the gallery of the publisher Ambroise Vollard. The artist depicted important places in Montmartroise Paris such as Place Blanche with the Moulin Rouge and from the beginning of the 20th century he dedicated himself to the decorative arts, expressing his passion for theatrical magic.
