Giulio Vito Musitelli Biography

He was born in Bergamo on 20 December 1901 and attended the Carrara Academy from 1918 to 1923 as a student of Ponziano Loverini; He then had Ermenegildo Agazzi as his teacher, and in 1943 he was called as a professor at the same Academy. A great portraitist, landscape painter, highly personal and sensitive painter of peasant life, he soon obtained prizes and recognition. He took part in the Portrait Exhibition in Monza in 1924. In 1927 he moved to Milan where he exhibited at the Micheli Gallery in 1931, at the Casa degli Artisti in 1932 and 1934, at the Permanente in 1938. Extremely skilled in drawing, he reached notable technical and artistic levels also in 'engraving, learned under the guidance of Romeo Bonomelli. In February 1942 the bombings of Milan destroyed his studio in via Castel Morrone and all his artistic production which he had jealously preserved until then. Of an increasingly closed and solitary nature, he often took refuge in the studio in Piazzolo di Ardesio. He died in Milan on 23 February 1990.
