Stefano Novo Biography
Stefano Novo, born in Cavarzere in 1862, enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in 1894, studying under the guidance of Pompeo Marino. Initially he dedicated himself to frescoes, specializing in sacred art. He worked in various churches in the Venetian and Padua areas, producing works characterized by fresh and brilliant painting. As regards easel painting, Stefano Novo perfected himself in genre subjects, mainly set in the streets and streets of Venice. His paintings often represent women with busty shapes, in front of their shops or their flower stands. These works present a filamentous brushstroke and great technical expertise, accompanied by a varied and luminous palette, capable of reflecting the colors of a popular Venice, but also of bourgeois living rooms. The painter made his debut at the Turin Exposition of 1884, then participated in several other exhibitions in Florence, Bologna, Milan, Palermo and of course Venice. During his career, he also exhibited in Chicago, where he received a prestigious award, in London and in Glasgow. Stefano Novo died in Venice in 1947.
