Mario Nuti Biography

Mario Nuti was born in Florence in 1923 and attended the Porta Romana School of Art in his hometown in the late 1930s. Nuti was influenced by the twentieth century of Ottone Rosai and the visionary realism of Mario Sironi. After a neocubist period, he was among the founders of classical abstractionism, a movement consolidated in 1950 with the Manifesto of classical abstractionism, signed by the painters Vinicio Berti, Bruno Brunetti, Alvaro Monnini, Gualtiero Nativi and Mario Nuti.
In the 1950s, Nuti approached ceramics and created some unique pieces at the "La Cava" ceramic factory in Lastra a Signa. Subsequently, he opened a ceramic workshop in partnership with the painter Bruno Brunetti. In the 1960s, his ceramics were characterized by creations characterized by a violent gesture that lacerates and shatters the material.
Mario Nuti worked with an evolutionary pictorial coherence linked to abstractionism in the traditionalist context of Florence in the 60s, 70s and 80s. In 2007, a significant retrospective exhibition on this artist took place in Prato with the publication of the related catalogue.
