Mario Nuzzi was born in Rome on January 19, 1603. His father, Sisto, dedicated himself to floriculture and also cultivated floral rarities. Mario began to paint the most particular flowers as a self-taught person, his works achieved great success on the market. Thanks to this, he entered the workshop of his painter uncle Tommaso Salini in San Lorenzo in Lucina. In 1625, upon Salini's death, Nuzzi inherited numerous clients and established profitable relationships with the academic environment of Cassiano dal Pozzo. He also collaborated with the Barberini court, for which he painted several portraits and small-format works. The maturation of a more dynamic and chromatically rich pictorial style earned him, at the height of his fame, his first commission as an impresario, between 1658 and 1659 for Cardinal Flavio Chigi, a systematic collector of still lifes. In collaboration with Carlo Maratti, he painted the sumptuous "Four Seasons" and in 1660 he created two floral interpretations painted on mirrors for the Colonnas. Mario Nuzzi died in Rome on 14 November 1673 in the house in Via Belsiana.
