Olivier Mourgue is a designer born in Paris in 1939, known for his work on the French design scene from the 1960s to the 1980s. His career was celebrated by the 38th edition of Puces du Design, now renamed Design Fair Paris. Mourgue was one of the most famous designers for the Djinn series, which pays homage to the geniuses of Arab culture with an anthropomorphic collection. He has collaborated with major companies such as Bayer and Mobilier National, and also worked with architect Norman Foster. Mourgue's design was democratic and flexible, with a recognizable style. He also imagined mobile blocks in chipboard, intended for furnishing the HLM apartments and sold by mail order through the Prisunic catalogue. Despite a more low-key career since the late 1970s, he has continued to create avant-garde and sculptural work, with an installation in Brittany where he still lives.
