Enrico Ortolani was born on 16 December 1883 in Rome. The artist attended the Academy of Fine Arts in his city under the guidance of Luigi Bazzani and Ettore Ferrari. He was a member of the group of Twenty-five of the Roman countryside, of which he held the role of secretary, and of the group of artists "De Corda Lati". His main source of inspiration were above all grandiose, almost solemn landscapes, among which the Apuan Alps and the islands of the Gulf of Naples stand out. He also depicted landscapes in watercolor, designed covers for books and advertisements. Ortolani taught at the Roman Institute, located within the Monumental Complex of San Michele a Ripa Grande. Starting in 1902, Ortolani exhibited his paintings in both national and international exhibitions. The artist died in Rome in 1972.
