Tommaso Ottieri Biography
Tommaso Ottieri, born in Naples in 1971, studies at the Faculty of Architecture of the Federico II University of Naples and at the Robert Gordon School of Architecture in Aberdeen (UK). In 1996 he obtained a degree in Architecture at the Federico II University of Naples with a thesis on bio-architecture applied to the recovery of the Port of Naples 1990-1995. In 1996 he won a Leonardo da Vinci scholarship at MIT, thanks to which he moved to the Cyclades islands, in Greece, to study the canons of biocompatible art and architecture. He settled in Santorini for two years where he worked as an architect for the Sintesi studio and opened his own painting studio in Oia. In 1998 he founded the MERO architecture studio, Palazzo Montemiletto, with Pietro Renna. In 1998 he obtained the Master's degree for executive planning of bio-architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Federico II University of Naples, where he collaborated on the project for the recovery and valorisation of the religious routes of Campania and southern Italy: the great architects are a source of inspiration and artists of the time, in addition to the classics whose example he tries to follow. His research is oriented towards the definition of very aesthetically and chromatically saturated scenarios, to propose a vision of the urban landscape and seek a role in its construction. In 2003 he inaugurated the first two solo exhibitions in Naples: Zenzen, at the Council Hall in the Santa Maria la Nova Complex (sponsored by the Province of Naples) and Suonno, at the Hypogean Halls of the Annunziata Monumental Complex (sponsored by the Campania Region ). The following year he presented the solo exhibitions Giovanni 19;41, at the Multicinema Modernissimo organized as part of the exhibition Pezzi Unici Modernissimi-Meetings with Contemporary Art curated by Luciano Stella and Ciro Cacciola and Do ble, at the headquarters of the Seterie Angelo I fly to Milan. In 2006 the solo show Sirene curated by Massimo Bignardi was presented first at the Rubin Gallery in Milan and subsequently - sponsored by the Municipality of Naples, the Campania Region, the Order of Architects and with the support of the Banco di Napoli Foundation - was presented at Castel dell'Ovo edited by Giovanna Procaccini. In 2007 he created the exhibition Cento Orizzonti (Palazzo della Ragione and Piccola Galleria Arte Contemporanea of Asolo) sponsored by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Asolo, followed the following year by Grace curated by G. Procaccini at the Overfoto Gallery in Naples and Al passo dei Giganti curated by A. Zanchetta at Nuovospazio Arte Contemporanea in Piacenza. Among the awards obtained are the Cairo Prize VIII edition organized at the Palazzo della Permanente in Milan (2007), the Celeste Prize, curated by Julia Draganovic and Gabi Scardi, Brodbeck Foundation, Catania (2010), the Michetti Prize (2013, Francavilla al Mare) and the second edition of the Eccellenti Pittori – Brazzale award, conceived by Camillo Langone and supported by the Brazzale Group (2015). Tommaso Ottieri's works portray opulent, modern and at the same time historical buildings and urban landscapes, painted in of red, blue and golden yellow. His work seeks to achieve an expressive and emotional quality. He lives and works between Rome and Naples.
