Domenico Paghini Biography
Domenico Paghini was born in Udine in 1778 and died in 1850. He trained in Udine with L. Zuccolo and at the school of Abbot GB Tosolini.
Subsequently, he went to the Academy of Venice to follow the courses of G. Diziani, who further oriented him towards neoclassical painting. During his period in Venice (1801-1810), he painted miniatures ("Studies and copies from antiquity", Udine, Municipal Library). He painted altarpieces for Friulian churches and frescoes with neoclassical motifs, inspired by the works by Politi (“The vocation of St. Peter”, 1825, Udine Cathedral; “San Giovanni Battista”, 1834, parish church of Visco; “Assumption of the Virgin”, 1836, parish church of Bicinicco). fresco decorations in civil homes, where he showed his debt to the great Venetian Veronese and Tiepolo tradition: creating city views, countryside, hunting scenes (1825-1830, Udine, Palazzo Lovaria), classical architecture (Udine, Palazzo Susanna- Caratti), landscapes, mythological scenes, figures on the galleries (before 1817, Udine, Palazzo Polcenigo Garzolini was also a great lover of music and taught singing and cello).
