Attilio Pagliara, active in Naples between 1851 and 1889, made his debut as a student of the Academy of Naples at the 1851 Bourbon Exhibition with a drawing essay. Attilio Pagliara, active in Naples between 1851 and 1889, made his debut as a student of the Academy of Naples at the 1851 Bourbon Exhibition with a drawing essay. Afterwards, he began to tackle historical-literary subjects and genre scenes, showing his work at the exhibitions of the Neapolitan Promoter.
In 1864 he presented “Benvenuto Cellini”, which received praise from F. Netti because it was “vigorously painted”.
One of his works, “A descendant of the Prophet” (exhibited in Naples in 1881, property of the Province of Naples), followed the genre of orientalist and neo-Pompeian painting that the author has tackled since the 1970s, with paintings also sent to exhibitions in Genoa (1874, “Offering to Venus”; 1880, “Allah! Allah!”; 1889, “The Flowers to the Father's Hands”).
