George Pan Cosmatos (1941 - 2005) Skilled director of international and Hollywood genre feature films. Cosmatos' first memorable film was "Massacre in Rome" (1973), a solid World War II drama starring Richard Burton and Marcello Mastroianni as a Nazi colonel and a priest, respectively. He began his career in entertainment working with a leading figure in international cinema, as an assistant director on Otto Preminger's epic “Exodus” (1960). In the late 1970s, Cosmatos began to specialize in big-budget Hollywood and international action films, starting with the technically flashy and refreshingly old-fashioned train adventure film, "The Cassandra Crossing" (1977), and followed with "Escape to Athena" (1979), a minor World War II action film starring Roger Moore and Telly Savalas.
