Aldo Panchieri Biography

Aldo Pancheri (Trento, 20 May 1940) is an Italian painter and engraver. Son of Renato, in turn brother of Gino Pancheri, thanks to his family friend Alfonso Gatto he exhibited some pastels in the Hall of Mirrors in the Buonconsiglio Castle in Trento at just thirteen years of age, also obtaining attention from some local newspapers. In the sixties he shared the atelier with Aldo Schimd: with him and Luigi Senesi he exhibited in Bassano del Grappa in 1969; of those years is a Milanese exhibition with a catalog with a critical text by Giorgio Mascherpa and a lithographic production which resulted in a Milanese exhibition in 1979. The artistic production of those years saw a constant use of pastel and frottage techniques, giving life to a «painting of sign, as if swept by the wind of a gesture, in which the layers of color are sheared as they are given in streaks or brought together almost in strokes, with graffiti interventions in corpore to remove». The use of oil was later grafted onto this technique, but still mixed with pastel. Stylistically, the impulsiveness of his creations was moderated starting from the nineties with the use of compositional geometries. At the same time, tendencies towards a certain abstract expressionism also began to emerge, which gave rise to «expressions less linked to external references, such as [his] informal landscapes of the soul». Two solo exhibitions from this last period are significant (1995 and 2000) with catalogs with critical text by Elena Pontiggia.
