Giovanni Paolo Panini (Piacenza 1691 - Rome 1765). He was a pupil of B. Luti in Rome where he had the opportunity to discover the classical landscape. Thanks to the protection of Cardinal de Polignac he had many contacts with the artists of the French Academy in Rome. He mainly deals with the decorations of Roman buildings such as the Quirinale Coffee-house. He is also notable for the creation of paintings depicting festivals, ceremonies, real or fantastic architectural views and ruins.
