Domenico Paolella (1915 - 2002) was a director, born in Foggia in 1915. From 1946 to 1951 he was artistic director of 'Incom' and chief editor of the first 500 issues of the newsreel of the same name, creating over 100 reportages in Italy and abroad. abroad. His documentary 'The tragedy of Etna' wins the award for best documentary at the Cannes festival. In the 1950s Paolella began working on feature films, making around forty musical, mythological and adventure films. Among his successes are 'Canzoni di mezzocento' (1952, with Cosetta Greco and Anna Maria Ferrero) and 'Canzoni di tutto Italia' (1955). Among others, he directed Walter Chiari, Carlo Ninchi and Paola Borboni in 'Rosso e nero' (1954) and Totò in 'Destinazione Piovarolo' while, in the mythological genre, 'Hercules against the tyrants of Babylon' and 'Maciste against the sheikh. Among his most recent films are 'Story of a cloistered nun' (1973) and 'Gardenia' (1979). Having been ill for some time, he died in his home in Rome.
