Born in Padua, but settled in Udine when he was not yet twenty years old, the artist was hosted here for many years by the Caiselli counts, in whose palace an entire room was decorated with his works. Between 1708 and 1715 he appeared in the Fraglia dei Pittori di Venezia, for which he paid his membership in 1712. The Venetian stay was of a certain importance for his artistic maturation, as he was able to frequent the stimulating international environments of the Lagoon. His allegories of the seasons and still lifes were mostly intended for the wall decorations of stately homes in Friuli, including the Attimis, the Concina, the Giacomelli, the Morelli de Rossi, the del Torso, the Valentinis. These compositions predominantly depicting edible genres such as vegetables, fruit, meats and cheeses were often enriched with flowers and sometimes framed by architectural backdrops or landscape backgrounds. The strong descriptive taste that characterizes them is similar to that of the samples of Bartolomeo Bimbi (Settignano, 1648 - Florence, 1729), while to the knowledge of the works of Marchioni (Rovigo, 17th century - 18th century), of Biggi (Parma, 1650 - Verona, ca. 1700) and the Flemish artists must be credited with the inserts with vases of flowers and game, represented by the painter with the precision of an acute and diligent chronicler. Luigi Lanzi's quote regarding his painting is flattering: "he was especially distinguished in flowers: and with great truth he portrayed fruits, vegetables, fish and cheese".
